Medical Marijuana Dispensaries: Closing Shop
With marijuana growing in popularity, are there “too many” medical marijuana dispensaries? Many legal states are beginning to crack down on the number of dispensaries allowed to operate in the area. Many citizens don’t approve of medical marijuana being so readily available. Tacoma has announced that within 60 days they will deliver messages to close shop. The shops then have the opportunity to contest and appear in court within 3 days. The rules in place to protect medical marijuana dispensaries are vague, and causing over 48 businesses to vacate.
The people in charge of these regulations are the Liquor and Cannabis Board (previously the Liquor Board). Why is it that the Liquor Board is defaulted to have this responsibility? Why isn’t there a Cannabis Board that is separate? This organization isn’t necessarily prepared to handle making important decisions, effecting legal business owners that pay taxes. There should be some sort of medical marijuana dispensaries enforcement department to help guide and regulate this industry.
Medical marijuana dispensaries are important, as many cater to different medical users. The beauty of medical marijuana is that it treats a variety of ailments. Therefore some dispensaries cater to smokers, while others may cater to edibles, and such. Each location gives you a unique experience. If we begin limiting the number of medical marijuana dispensaries, then we should be limiting the amount of liquor stores. There are just as many of them, if not more. Support your local medical marijuana dispensaries while you can!
